Counselling
Counselling may be more appropriate or practical than either day care or residential treatment. For example, those in full time work or with children may be unable to attend a residential centre. In situations like these, appointments can be tailor made to suit the individual's circumstances. We are also able to offer some evening appointments. All appointments are treated in the strictest confidence.
When you contact our office, an appointment will be made for an initial interview. This will be a free assessment held in a relaxed and informal setting, after which a personalised therapeutic programme will be arranged.
Fees are charged in accordance with services provided.
Our programme is "solution focused", using widely accepted models and approaches, providing a beneficial and rewarding opportunity to move forward and regain control of your life.
Addictions
Our approach to dealing with alcoholism and drug addiction is by no means unique, as it is used with great success in the U.K., Europe and the United States. Alcoholism and drug addiction can be described as a pathological dependence on one's drug of choice, despite the affects and consequences associated with its use. There may well be several serious emotional and behavioural problems which precipitate alcohol and drug abuse, fear, anger, frustration, stress, or a general emotional dis-ease, to name a few. Hampshire Counselling Service is 'solution focused', in addition to looking at the pre-disposing causes and addressing these. The main thrust of treatment is towards positive growth and change.
Anxiety
Anxiety (mental distress) can manifest itself in many different ways, creating a debilitating state of fear driven, reaction or inertia. For some sufferers it can mean weeks, months, even years of distressing worry. Desperate to change, but fearful of making the decisions necessary.
Alcoholism
While the newspapers in this and other countries are full of articles on the epidemic of drug dependence, the problems of alcoholism, which have been with us for so much longer, evoke relatively little publicity. Yet, since alcoholism affects the middle aged as well as the young and as it is one of the outstanding causes of marital disharmony, broken homes and psychologically disturbed children, it is one of the major health problem of our time.
What is not so well known is that those suffering from alcoholism can make a full recovery, going on to become productive and respectable members of society.
Family Support
Being close to someone who is drinking or using can often have a debilitating effect on ourselves and our lives, common symptoms which may occur are anxiety, a loss of self esteem, difficulty in saying no, anger and depression.Hampshire counselling service offers help and support enabling you to move forward and regain control of your life.
Stress
There is no such thing as a stress free life. A certain amount of stress is normal and can simply be an indication that change is necessary. However, when we experience an overload of stress, this can be quite difficult to recognise and even more difficult to deal with. Here is where a therapist can help you to identify the problem and develop the necessary means to change.
Relationship difficulties
Structured intervention can be a low cost way of finding a solution for parties who find themselves in an often difficult and distressing situation. Mediation/intervention can help parties to resolve differences and move forward when other efforts may have failed.
Grief/ Bereavement
Death and loss are an integral part of life and is an experience common to man yet the pain of the loss of someone close to us can be searing, consuming and often debilitating.
Loss need not be restricted to the death of a loved one redundancy, separation, changes in one's health, even the loss of a job can result in feeling of anger, despair and a sense of numbness and disorientation all of which are attributed the process of grief.
Sometimes coping with this loss requires additional support and Hampshire Counselling Service can offer this. Since the grieving process is essentially unique the time scale over which support can be sought is client led.
